Muratec America, Inc. entered the U.S. market in 1982 as Murata Business Systems to sell fax machines through private-label agreements with multiple U.S. companies. In 1985, the Murata began marketing its fax products under its own name from its corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The company changed its name in 1992 to Muratec and realigned its business model away from retail in order to focus on sales and distribution exclusively through a national business-to-business dealer channel.

Muratec products are frequently recognized by independent industry analysts as being some of the best in the industry. Most recently, the Muratec MFX-1700 was named the 2003 Best COHO/Satellite Office MFP by BERTL (Business Equipment Research and Test Laboratories).
