MCK Branch Office EXTender: Toshiba has an agreement with MCK
Communications to market their line of EXTender and PBXgateway products with Strata
business telephone systems through authorized Toshiba dealers. The MCK EXTender products
are intended for use by small and medium-sized organizations with geographically dispersed
locations. This enables them to take advantage of lower cost, single system operations.
The MCK Branch Office EXTender extends the power of the main locations Strata system
and voice mail system to small branch offices or individual users over the customers
existing data network. This enables groups or individual remote workers to use Toshiba
digital telephones to have seamless access to the main locations telephone system
and voice mail system from remote locations. This provides these remote employees with
transparent access to all the same capabilities as if they were locally connected at the
main location.
MCK EXtenders use MCKs Remote Voice Protocol (RVP) and Remote Voice Protocol
over IP (RVPoIP) to convert voice and signaling into packets that can be sent
through a remote access connection to the corporate voice network. The MCK EXTender
connects to the customers existing corporate network over traditional circuit
switched networks including T1 (TDM), Fractional T1, ISDN, Frame Relay circuits through an
external network device, or over packet switched networks (i.e. IP, xDSL, Cable). Using a
third-party network termination allows the Branch Office EXTender to perform in a wide
variety of network environments. Network connections can include ISDN terminal adapters,
CSU/DSUs, multiplexers, FRADs, routers, DOCSIS-compliant cable modems, etc. Using advanced
voice compression algorithms, the EXTender minimizes network bandwidth requirements while
ensuring high voice quality.
Each EXTender remote unit is available in 12-port, 8-port, or individual user
configurations. A corresponding PBXgateway switch unit at the main location end connects
to the Strata system through digital station ports. MCK PBXgateway switch units are
available in 24-port, 12-port, and 8-port configurations.
IP Enabling Strata CS Communication Server Business Telephone Systems
The Strata CS Communication Server is an IP-ready Voice based software driven
communication server that combines the power of the desktop computer with advanced
telecommunications technology. Strata CS systems can be IP enabled in various ways.
The Strata CS runs on Microsoft networking over TCP/IP, so it is readily compatible with a
customers existing LAN. Strata CS is also compatible with Novell®IPX network
protocol, running in a dual stack configuration. Strata CS calls can be sent directly over
the Internet or a private TCP/IP network to remote IP telephone users. The Intel®
Dialogic® Internet telephony board connects the Strata CS Communication Server directly
to the customers network, and accesses the Internet through their normal Internet or
TCP/IP network connection.
The same MCK EXTender products used with Strata CTX and Strata DK systems are also
compatible with Strata CS systems. This enables both individuals and groups of remote
users to be connected to the host communication server, using digital telephone extensions
with the same functionality as local digital extension users. Connection to the remote
site may be by analog CO line, BRI, T1, frame relay, or an IP network
Strata CS VoIP Solutions
For businesses that rely on the Internet as a critical part of their communication system,
Strata CS includes support for low- to high-capacity VoIP interface cards that can be
installed in the server. This capability provides small- to medium-sized businesses with a
lower cost of entry for VoIP than traditional systems because it is fully integrated with
the Strata CS telephone system.
The Strata CS Communication Server seamlessly supports Internet telephony through an
integrated Internet gateway that eliminates the need for external IP Gateway devices.
Combined with dialing services, the Strata CS Internet telephony support makes it as easy
to place and receive Internet calls as regular telephone calls whether youre calling
from a locally connected telephone, remote pay phone, or using the Strata CS Client on
your desktop PC. Users can also place and receive calls from H.323 terminals like
Microsoft NetMeeting, a real-time conferencing and collaboration tool.
